Crafting compelling design presentations: Audience insight, storytelling, and engaging conversations
Audience understanding. Compelling storytelling. Engaging conversations. Key ingredients for successful design presentations.
There is no shortage of advice when it comes to presentation, but I want to share some of my insights on improving your design presentation.
Understand your audience
Identify the stakeholders, each with their backgrounds and priorities — some tech-focused, others concerned with marketing or usability. Conduct thorough research to tailor your presentation to their needs, saving both parties valuable time.
Tell a story through your design
Regardless of the audience’s background, everyone loves a good story. Present your design goals and process in a compelling narrative that evokes emotions and thoughts, providing a comprehensive and engaging experience.
Foster a conversational atmosphere
While some situations may require a solo performance, most internal and external presentations benefit from a conversational approach. Engaging with your audience allows them to feel your passion and ideas firsthand while encouraging them to ask questions and provide feedback.
